Éva Tardos, who serves as Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Computer Science, has been named Chair of the Computer Science department at Cornell. A foundational contributor to algorithms, algorithmic game theory, and theoretical computer science, Tardos has also been serving as the Computing and Information Science (CIS) Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. With Hakim Weatherspoon and other CS collaborators, she has successfully launched the CSMore program, which aims to "increase computer science preparation and exposure to research for participants, especially underrepresented minorities and/or first generation college students, supporting the computer science department’s commitment to access, equity, and inclusion and to enhance the diversity of Cornell's undergraduate student population."

Tardos will be following in the accomplished footsteps of Kavita Bala, who has been appointed Dean of Computing and Information Science (CIS). Both professors will assume their new positions on August 15, 2020.
