Prof Carla Gomes, Director of the Institute for Computational Sustainability, is leading a team of researchers in optimizing programs to design wildlife migration corridors. The researchers began by creating optimization programs to design corridors for grizzly bears and have now updated their systems to work with multiple species. “The land trusts have very limited resources,” said Carla. “Now that we can get synthesis rather than just optimize for one species, it’s economically more efficient.”
